Nisswa Police Department earns first place honors in 2001 International Police Vehicle Design Contest

Nisswa Minnesota — The Nisswa Police Department earned first place honors in the 2001 International Police Vehicle Design Contest sponsored by Law and Order Magazine and the 3M Corporation.

The department won top honors in the "Municipal - Less than 50 Officers" category for their police car logo design and aesthetic appeal.
Nisswa Police Department Sgt. Tim Holmes submitted a narrative and photographs as part of the contest and was recently notified of the honor.
"Our department has received numerous comments and compliments on our cars' design," Holmes said. "I thought the contest would be a great opportunity for our department to gain positive exposure and see how our design compares to other cities throughout the country."

Along with first place honors, the department will be featured in the July 2001 issue of Law and Order Magazine as well as receive a plaque and monetary award of $400 to be donated to a charity of the department's choice.

Holmes said the department has chosen the Nisswa Community Library project as the recipient of their winnings.

Chief Craig Taylor thanked those who had a hand in originally designing and implementing the Nisswa Police Department logo, including Carol Painter of Signs and Designs in Nisswa and the Nisswa Public Safety Committee.

More than 5,000 departments have entered the contest throughout the past 13 years. According to a spokesperson from Law and Order Magazine, the contest has greatly aided in raising officers' levels of consciousness in respect to the design of their agency's vehicles.

Based solely on graphic application, entries with clearly identified departments, clean, professional design and appealing graphic schemes were awarded first, second and third place.

Other first place winners include:

Federal or State Agency – Colorado School of Mines Police Department

DARE – Beaverton (OR) Police Department

Municipal (More than 50 Officers) – Clinton Township (MI) Police Department

Municipal (Less than 50 Officers) – Nisswa (MN) Police Department
